Spaces

Welcome back everyone.

Let’s pick up from a topic of Sunday morning. It was mentioned that there are several spaces where our relationships operate out of.

1. Public Space
2. Social Space
3. Personal Space
4. Intimate Space

• Public space is the area that is a safe place to operate. You may work in a building; go to church, or go shopping and feel safe in an environment like that. You may have interaction with people in these places, but it is probably not the setting to begin to know people well.
• Social space is the next step closer to knowing someone better. You may have people in your social space that you go workout with, meet for dinner, or go to a ball game with.
• Personal space is the area where you begin to truly know someone. This space is often reserved for close friends, people you are sharing life with on a regular basis. You’re not afraid to share personal things with them and give them a glimpse into your life.
• Intimate space is the holy of holies for relationships. A healthy person only has 1-2 people in this space. We shouldn’t expect to be intimate with every person we know. You may have a spouse, a parent, or a best friend in this space. You are not afraid to touch them or share intimate feelings.

Having seen these different spaces, can you identify the relationships you’re in by these areas? Do you have anyone in personal or intimate space?

The ultimate question we must answer is this: Where is our relationship with God in regards to spaces?

Is God in your intimate space or are you keeping God distant and only at public space in your life? We must begin a process of moving God to the most intimate spaces of our lives. God does not desire to remain in your public or social space. He wants you to know Him intimately and experience the fullness of a relationship with Him.

…live the journey
